| If you are using Windows Media Encoder 4.11 click here to move to the tutorial for that version. | |||
| This tutorial is for Windows Media Encoder Version 7. | |||
| You will need Windows Media Encoder Version 7. If you don't have it you can download it here Windows Media Technologies move down the page to Windows Media Tools and Services and download Windows Media Encoder 7. Install Windows Media Encoder 7. | |||
| You can convert wavs or mp3s. They should be 128kps 44khz stereo for best results. | |||
| 1. Choose your wav or mp3. I am using Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by BJ Thomas. Filename (BJ_Thomas)-Raindrops_Keep_Falling_On_My_Head.mp3 | |||
| e |
2. Start Windows
Media Encoder Version 7. |

9.
You will get a Encoding Results window like this. |
11.
Go to folder holding your new WMA. Change the extension wma to asf. To
change the extension you need to open Explore file manager click
Tools/Folders Options/View...make sure (Hide file extensions for known
file types) is unchecked. Then move to the folder where your WMA is
located. Highlight your WMA file then right click the filename and click
rename. Place the cursor at the end of the filename, and backspace wma out
and type asf and hit return. Listen and enjoy
your new ASF. If you need the script to add asf to your stationery you can download it here. I will enclose one copy with the area you change in red as a html file. The script will be as a txt file. Place the script right before </BODY></HTML> |
12. Okay now you
need host or server to place the ASF file. You can place the ASF on the server of your own choice. |
13. Next you will
either upload using the host's uploading page or you can use a FTP program
to upload to the host's FTP server. I use WS_FTP LE which you can download
from here.
Download WS_FTP LE 5.08 Install WS_FTP LE. |
| 14. If you are using the host's upload page seek their help pages if you don't know how to use the upload page. I will step you through using the WS_FTP LE. | |||
15.
Open WS_FTP LE program. |
16. Once you are
connect with the FTP server the screen should look like this: |
| 17. The left window is your computer and the right window is the host. I set up a special folder to hold my ASFs. To do this click MkDir on the right and type in the name you want in the window then click okay. | |||
18. Double click
on the folder you just made. Now on the left side your computer click on
the two dots at the top moves you out of a folder. Move to the folder that
holds your ASF. Find your ASF highlight it like below: |
| 19. On your computer go to folder holding your new ASF. Listen and enjoy. If you need the script to add asf to your stationery you can double click on the two links. Copy both files. AsfScriptExample.html and AsfScript.txt. The html copy shows the area you change in red. The script will be as a text file. Place the script right before </BODY></HTML> | |||
| 20. With the script added to your stationery you will be able to hear your ASFs play, and so will others. | |||
